SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.
Lumberloft Press is seeking talented, unpublished authors to feature in our upcoming short fiction compilation.
The theme for this year's compilation is: DEATH FROM ABOVE. Why this topic? Scroll down to find out.
Original stories up to 5,000 words in length that have never been published or featured in any physical or digital medium are eligible for submission. Submissions are open from March 1 to July 30. Final judges are still being selected.
Please refer to the official contest rules before submitting your work.
(1) Grand Prize winner will receive $1,000 (USD) and publication in the physical and digital copies of the compilation. Up to 15 runners-up will also be selected for publication. All winners will receive a hardcover edition of the release and a contribution credit. Winning entrants will be notified by September 30, 2019. Due to a high number of submissions, non-winning entrants will not be notified, but a list of all winners will be posted here starting on October 1.
DEATH FROM ABOVE
Lately, we at the Lumberloft have become fascinated with the tragic but often heartwarming stories about people (and animals) who have sadly died after an unexpected force has quite literally fallen on them from the air above. The more we started to explore the topic, the more it sunk deep into our guts. These stories are not uncommon, nor are they always explainable. But they're also not always sad. They're often filled with unforgettable details of hope, of the pursuit of a passion, or of the dream of living an admirably quiet and normal life. And as the loved ones of these victims can attest, this could happen to any one of us.
We're looking for fiction submissions of all shapes and sizes. From the straight-forward to the abstract, and to those that are only minimally influenced by the prompt. If you read the words DEATH FROM ABOVE and it inspires something in you, we want to read it.
Here at Lumberloft Press, we strive to connect with the smallest of audiences. Niche is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but we like to think that we're nicher than niche. If we could somehow publish a personalized, perfect novel for every willing reader, we would find a way to make it happen. And while this does not make for a fantastic business model, our goal as a publisher is not to reap profits or peddle formulaic stories to the masses. Our goal is to connect with you. To give you a chance at finding your absolute favorite book. To do that, we have to go small. Really small.
Now, you might not be interested in the topic of dying, or of objects that fall from above, or even in reading. But if you are, or even if you're not but you're curious what a bunch of stories about this awful topic might have in common, we hope you'll enjoy what comes from this contest. It's an experiment, and we're happy to be along for the ride. Won't you join us?
